JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is committed to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by issuing Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 16 of 2022 concerning Procedures for the Implementation of Carbon Economic Values, Subsector of Electric Power Plants.

Dadan added, for 2023, his party is targeting a reduction of 500,000 tons of emissions from the electricity sector.

"From us, the calculation is 500,000 tons for this year," he added.

Dadan further explained that this regulation is a derivative of Presidential Regulation Number 98 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Values for the Achievement of Nationally Stipulated Contribution Targets and Control of Glass House Gas Emissions in National Development. Where Carbon Economic Value is one of the instruments in reducing GRK emissions.

"With this instrument, business actors can support and play an active role in controlling GRK emissions through the implementation of Carbon Economic Values," explained Dadan.

Dadan then explained that in the Ministerial Regulation there were 6 (six) scopes of arrangements which included: the stipulation of the Technical Stipulation of the Upper Limit Emission (PTBAE), the preparation of the GRK Emission Monitoring Plan for power generation, the determination of the Technical Approval of the Upper Limit Emission of Business Actors (PTBAE-PU), Carbon Trading, the preparation of reports on the GRK Emisi of power generation and evaluation of the implementation of Carbon Trade and PTBAE-PU auctions.

"The first phase of carbon trading will be carried out in 2023, where it will first be implemented in coal PLTU generating units connected to the electricity network of PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) with a larger capacity or equal to 100 MW. We note that there are a total of about 99 units of coal PLTU," said Dadan.
