JAKARTA - Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE), Dadan Kusdiana explained a number of advantages that will result from the implementation of biodiesel in Indonesia.

Dadan said this program is a form of joint effort to reduce dependence on petroleum fuel, as well as bring Indonesian palm oil to be better and more sustainable.

"This biodiesel program is not only a program of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to use it as fuel, but also how to encourage palm oil in Indonesia to provide broad benefits for the national economy and specifically for farmers," Dadan said to the media quoted on Saturday, January 14.

When the biodiesel implementation program was designed, Dadan continued, the price of Crude Palm Oil (CPO) was in the range of 275 US dollars per tonne and continued to increase along with the increase in palm demand due to the implementation of biodiesel.

"How can we raise the price of palm oil because the price of palm oil will automatically transfer to the price of FFB (of fresh fruit) palm oil in farmers. In addition, we are still importing diesel even though the graph is decreasing. This is one of the breakthroughs and the evidence that research and development results can be implemented and provide such broad benefits," he added.

In addition to encouraging demand for palm oil, the Government has also encouraged the spread of the construction of a CPO processing plant into biodiesel.

Currently, Indonesia is preparing to implement the implementation of an increase in the percentage of biodiesel-based fuel mixing into diesel oil fuels from 30 percent (B30) to 35 percent (B35) starting February 1, 2023.

"This month we are still B30. Starting next week all shipments from this biodiesel will use the B35 spectrum," said Dadan.

Dadan further revealed, with the enactment of B35, Indonesia will be more able to control diesel imports.

Just so you know, for the implementation of the B35 program in 2023, it is targeted that the distribution of biodiesel will reach 13.15 million kL per year or 226,000 barrels per day.

"Devisa savings are estimated at around US$10.75 billion or equivalent to Rp161 trillion, employment of 1,653,974 people and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 34.9 million tons of CO2," concluded Dadan.
