In order to welcome the implementation of the FIBA World Cup which will be held in August 2023, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements has accelerated the completion of the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) construction in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Jakarta.

To date, the physical progress of its construction has reached 74 percent and is targeted to be completed by June 2023.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said that the development of basketball sports infrastructure is part of the support for the development of national athletes so that they can excel in the international arena.

"At the last SEA Games, basketball was already champion, after owning this stadium, achievements must be further improved. So, the KPI (performance indicator) must be an achievement," said Minister Basuki in a written statement, Wednesday, January 11.

Basuki also advised that the stadium, which has been built at the expense of the state budget, can be maintained and utilized as well as possible for the achievement of national athletes.

"Why is the concept multifunctional, because it can be used for concerts and sports. The technology is telescopic in the stands. The location is in the middle of the city with dense reforestation and extensive parking, so the concept is right for multifunction, and then please pay attention to the maintenance aspects," he said.

Meanwhile, Director General of Human Settlements Diana Kusumastuti said, IMS can not only be used to support basketball, but also for other sports, as well as non-sports activities.

"In design, IMS has five floors and one roof floor with the main function as a basketball stadium, namely one main field and two training fields," he said.

In addition, Diana said, this stadium can also function for other sports, such as Volleym, Badminton, Tennis, MMA, Athletics, and others.

"IMS can also be used for non-sports activities, such as music concerts, seminars, special performances and others," he explained.

Diana also added that the construction of the IMS uses the construction technology of Building Information Modeling (BIM), with a budget sourced from the APBN through the 2021-2023 Multi Years Contract Contract (MYC) scheme worth IDR 639.1 billion with the implementing contractor PT Adhi Karya-PT Nindya Karya-PT Penta (KSO).

"Currently, the physical progress of IMS development has reached 74 percent and is targeted for completion in June," he added.

On the other hand, Spokesperson for the Ministry of PUPR Endra S. Atmawidjaja said, in the near future a final structure will be installed on the highest roof of the IMS building on the fifth floor.

"The plan is that the topping-off event will be attended directly by Mr. President Jokowi. We are definitely still waiting for the schedule. This event is a marker of the end of construction activities and will continue with finishing to completion in June," he added.

For your information, IMS is located in Block 10 with an area of 30,270 m2 belonging to the Ministry of State Secretariat under the management of PPK-GBK in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Senayan, Jakarta. The building itself covers 50,398 m2 and has a audience capacity of 16,523 people.
