TANJUNG PANDAN - The Department of Food and Agriculture Security (DKPP) of Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, recorded that the total production throughout 2022 in the area reached 338.6 tons.

"The number of farmers' chili production in Belitung until November 2022 has reached 338.6 tons," said Tenny Meireni, Head of the Food Crops and Horticulture Division of the Belitung DKPP, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 4.

According to him, this amount consists of 128 tons of curly chili production with a planting area of 28.33 hectares and 210.5 tons of local cayenne pepper with a planting area of 65.58 hectares.

"So the total production of farmers' chilies in Belitung in 2022 will reach 338.6 tons," he said.

Tenny explained, the target for chili production in Belitung throughout 2022 is 435 tons.

He is optimistic that this target can be achieved because the data on farmers' chili harvests in December has not been fully recapitulated.

"The number of harvests in December has not been entered, so we are sure that if we add data on the December harvest, it will reach the production target," he said.

He said, while the production target for curly chilies and local cayenne pepper in the area in 2023 was 453 tons.

According to him, in order to achieve this target, his party will increase the planting area of chilies in the area and distribute productive assistance to chili farmers to increase production.

"We are currently increasing local chili production to reduce dependence on chili supplies from outside the region," he said.
