Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that Indonesia's strong economic growth in 2022 could be a provision to deal with the potential for a global recession in 2023.

"People's mobility that is increasingly recovering is the main determinant to encourage Indonesian economic activity," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga when opening an event entitled "Momentum for Economic and Political Consolidation", quoted from Antara, Thursday, December 15.

He is optimistic that Indonesia's economic growth will reach 5.2 percent year on year (yoy) in 2022, and 5.3 percent yoy in 2023.

"With the consideration of various global and domestic risks, we are optimistic about the projection of Indonesia's economic growth of 5.2 percent in 2022, and 5.3 percent in 2023," said Airlangga.

In the midst of global uncertainty and the decline in the world economy, he explained that the Indonesian economy remains solid by recording growth of 5.72 percent YoY in the third quarter of 2022.

"It is supported by continued improvements in domestic demand as reflected in increased consumption and high export sectors," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

In addition, external sector indicators are also relatively under control, as reflected in the trade balance and running transactions that are still in surplus, high foreign exchange reserves, and a safe debt ratio.

"A number of leading indicators, real consumption and investments are still at an optimistic level," said Airlangga.

Furthermore, in terms of handling the COVID-19 pandemic, according to him, all regions are well coordinated and there have been no prominent cases during the last six months in 2022.

"The new national COVID-19 case experienced a downward trend and is currently at 2,000 cases per day," said Airlangga.

According to him, this achievement was driven by the availability and readiness of health facilities, health workers, good and adequate drugs, and quite high vaccination achievements.

In addition, this action was coupled with efforts to improve the second booster vaccination program and the elderly, especially to mitigate the new subvariants of XBB, BQ, and other subvariants.
