JAKARTA - Regarding the rampant fraud on behalf of an expedition courier that directs customers to click on links and install certain applications, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk urges customers not to install applications arbitrarily with unofficial sources and cannot be accounted for.

"Data or information can be stolen by fraudsters if the public installs applications with unofficial sources sent by irresponsible parties," said BRI Corporate Secretary Aestika Oryza Gunarto, Friday, December 9.

Aestika added, with the increasing number of fraud modes, BRI has massively appealed to customers to be more careful, and not to download, install, or access unofficial applications.

He also appealed to customers to maintain the confidentiality of personal data and banking data to others or parties on behalf of BRI, including providing personal data and banking data information (account numbers, card numbers, PIN, users, passwords, OTP etc.) through channels, links or websites with sources that cannot be justified.

"We also urge the general public that this mode of social engineering fraud can also occur in any bank," added Aestika.

Aestika said that currently her party is coordinating with the police to uncover and arrest various banking crimes that harm customers and the public.

"BRI always maintains customer confidentiality data, and never contacts customers to request confidential data such as usernames, passwords, PINs, or OTP codes and so on," he continued.

Regarding the losses caused by this fraud, Aestika said BRI was also empathetic about the fraud incident, however, the bank would only compensate customers if negligence was caused by the banking system.
