JAKARTA ST Telemedia Global Data Center (Indonesia) announced the completion of the building structure of its first data center in Indonesia, namely STT Jakarta 1.

This new facility is the first building from the data center campus to be developed with Triputra Group and Temasek.

PT STT GDC Indonesia Country Head Hendrikus Hendra Gozali, said that when completed, the data center campus will support IT's critical power capacity of up to 72 megawatts and the Jakarta 1 STT itself can support up to 19.5 megawatts when fully operational in the second quarter of 2023.

"STT Jakarta 1 has a strategic location in Bekasi Regency, to the east of Jakarta, and has a gross floor area of 18,000 square meters. This data center wants to answer the needs of hyperscalers, as well as Indonesian and multinational companies in various fields ranging from banking and finance, content, games, and e-commerce," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, December 6.

Therefore, he continued, STT Jakarta 1 provides digital infrastructure to meet the increasing need for digital and cloud services.

In line with the ongoing development plan, PT STT GDC Indonesia has signed a land purchase process for the construction of a second data center on the campus.

He added that the Jakarta 1 STT was built according to strict global standards for business security and sustainability.

This new data center facility with the standard TIA-942 Rated-3 is able to ensure smooth operation in unexpected circumstances, by providing a high redundancy rate for network power, storage, computing and capacity.

"PT STT GDC Indonesia is also in the process of obtaining Uptime Tier-3 Tier Certification of Design Documents, LEED Gold, as well as various ISO qualifying programs and Threat Vulnerability Risk Assessment (TVRA) to ensure a safe and optimal operational environment," he explained.

In line with the focus and global commitment of the GDC STT to achieve the operational performance of carbon-neutral data centers, the operation of the Jakarta 1 STT data center will meet the carbon-neutral requirements from the first day.

Southeast Asian Chief Executive Officer Lionel Yeo said this data center will provide a platform to advance digital innovation in Indonesia, which will then help boost economic growth.

"I am sure, our expertise in designing, building, and operating data centers for the largest and most complicated markets in Asia, can answer the needs of Indonesia's digital economy which is currently booming, as well as accelerating digitalization in the country with the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia," he said.

Recent research conducted by STT GDC with Oxford Economics on potential economic benefits obtained from data center projects, found that data center facilities with a capacity of 20 megawatts with a life cycle of 30 years could contribute to an increase in GDP to 5.3 billion US dollars and create 28,000 jobs within a few years.

The economic benefits of STT Jakarta 1 for the local community will exceed the initial investment in the construction of these facilities.

"Together with the ongoing activities of customers, vendors and other supporting staff, this data center will create tens of thousands of jobs throughout its life cycle," he concluded.
