Jokowi Said 60 Percent Of Electric Vehicles Would Depend On The Indonesian Battery

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said as many as 60 percent of electric vehicles in the world will depend on an integrated battery ecosystem in Indonesia.

"I calculate how much, 60 percent of electric cars, electric vehicles, will depend on our EV (Electric Vehicle) Battery. 60 percent of the world's market share," said President Jokowi as quoted by Antara, Friday, December 2.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia has almost all the abundant resources to create an electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

Natural resources, such as nickel, copper, bauxite, and tin in large quantities.

Nevertheless, said Jokowi, Indonesia is only lacking in lithium.

However, Indonesia has expressed interest in Australia to work together in obtaining lithium supplies to support the Indonesian electric vehicle battery ecosystem.

Therefore, said Jokowi, the resources to create this ecosystem are complete.

Currently, one of the other important things is to integrate the downstream process of natural resources.

Integrating this is something that is not easy, so it becomes an ecosystem. This is what continues, I really have to be, because this is what will jump us over, towards another civilization," said Jokowi.

Jokowi added that if the electric vehicle battery ecosystem had been built in Indonesia, investment would also come in an abundance.

"(Investments) will come in in droves, because the automotive industry in the future, be it electric motorcycles, be it electric cars, it will replace (conventional vehicles)," he concluded.
