JAKARTA - InsightsAsia marketing research company in research results entitled Consistency That Leads: 2023 E-Wallet Industry Outlook shows that digital wallets are increasingly becoming the most chosen payment method for Indonesians.

Research results show that 71 percent of respondents actively use digital wallets for various kinds of financial transactions.

The use of digital wallets outperforms other payment methods such as cash of 49 percent, bank transfer 24 percent), QRIS 21 percent, Paylater 18 percent, debit card 17 percent and VA transfer of 16 percent.

Research Director of InsightAsia Olivia Samosir said that the results of this research also show that GoPay is a digital wallet platform that is consistently the most widely used by consumers, since the last 5 years until now.

"Most digital wallet users have used GoPay 71 percent and have continued to be loyal to use 58 percent," Olivia said at the InsightAsia Survey's 2023 Industry Outlook press conference, Monday, November 28.

Meanwhile, the second position was occupied by OVO with 70 percent of respondents using it, and 53 percent used it in the last three months.

The last position in the top three is filled by Funds, with 61 percent of respondents using but not included in the top three categories of use in the last three months, and ShopeePay which was used by 51 percent of respondents in the last three months but was not included in the top three categories ever used.

Furthermore, Olivia continued, the results of research showed that GoPay received satisfaction from 84 percent of consumers, followed by OVO by 80 percent, and Funds by 75 percent.

"In fact, the majority of respondents or 61 percent used 2 to 3 e-wallet platforms to pay for various transactions, both online and offline," Olivia continued.

InsightAsia's research also found a tendency to use digital wallets has developed from just payments to money management such as money transfers, providing transaction history, and recent payment features or paylaters.

"There are 10 kinds of use of digital wallets, the biggest is shopping on e-commerce, then top-up mobile phone credits, followed by money transfers on the platform, looking at transaction history, bank transfers, culinary messages, bill payments, offline payments for household expenses and paylaters," he concluded.
