Review The Energy Efficiency MENTARI Program, Indonesia And The UK Are In An Effort To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif together with British Ambassadors to Indonesia and Timor Leste Owen Jenkins and Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Dadan Kusdiana officially launched the Energy Efficiency TEMPTMENT Program (MENTARI EE).

This program aims to support the achievement of Indonesia's greenhouse gas emission reduction target, the energy efficiency sub-sector.

Arifin added that this program is a joint follow-up between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the United Kingdom in the UK Fact for Axelerated Climate Transition Program. namely a greenhouse gas reduction program through an efficiency program in the building sector.

According to Arifin, this energy efficiency is very important to see events that have recently occurred an energy crisis whose impact is felt not only in the country, but also throughout the world.

The agreement on the implementation of THE MINISTER OF AFFAIRS EE is part of a number of agreements signed in November to deepen cooperation between Indonesia and the UK. Some time ago at the G20 Conference on November 15 in Bali, a funding agreement was also announced for the Indonesia Just Energy Transition Partnership.

The British government supports the initiative with funding of USD 1 billion which will be channeled through a World Bank loan as well as through an agreement between the MENTARI program and PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur in the form of a joint investment scheme for renewable energy projects.

THE MINISTER OF AFFAIRS EE is expanding the MINISTER OF AFFAIRS' partnership that has been running since 2020 which has successfully completed several projects such as two villages' electrification in Sumba with solar panels and battery-based power grid systems.

The British government is committed to funding the MENTARI EE activities with the support of a total GBP of 2.7 million from UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions (UK PACT).

The British government welcomes the opportunity to strengthen partnerships with the Government of Indonesia to support Indonesia's efforts to accelerate the implementation of energy efficiency. In addition to supporting the achievement of Indonesia's ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this effort can also reduce the costs incurred by consumers for energy consumption

"This new initiative enriches the collaboration between the two countries in the energy sector which has begun through the UK Indonesia's Partnership for Low Carbon Energy", said British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Owen Jenkins in his remarks.

The MENTARI EE support consists of three projects that work together to complement other support initiatives in developing policy recommendations, support for the preparation of energy efficiency pilot projects in the building building sector, development of financing incentives and support to strengthen coordination between stakeholders.

The three MENTARI EE projects will be carried out by the Institute for Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Management (IREEM), Carbon Trust Singapore Pte Ltd, and Exyztem Venture Builder.

The three projects that will be carried out in the partnership collaboration are,

1. The Integrated Energy Efficiency Program for the Decarbionization of Indonesia s Building Sector (INTENS). Project lead: Institute for Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Management (IREEM)

2. De-risking energy efficiency in Indonesia: pilot project for quarantines. Project leads: Carbon Trust Singapore Pte Ltd, and

3. Creating an energy efficiency ecosystem through multi-stakeholder partnership approach in Indonesia. Project lead: Exyztem Venture Builder.
