JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani will consider providing assistance to overcome the storm of layoffs (PHK) that is currently hitting the country.

"We will see which instruments can be helped and who should be helped, whether the corporation or the workers," Sri Mulyani said at a press conference: APBN KITA November 2022, quoted from Antara, Thursday, November 24.

Nevertheless, to make a policy mix in overcoming the layoff storm, he admitted that he would discuss it first with various parties, namely Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker), and the Employment Social Security Administration Agency (BPJS).

If the workers who are affected or threatened with layoffs are given assistance, it will be considered whether the assistance comes from the Ministry of Manpower or BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

Meanwhile, if the corporation is given assistance, it will be considered whether or not a delay or reduction in income tax payments (PPh) will be given again.

Sri Mulyani explained that the phenomenon of layoff storms, among others, occurred due to controlling export demand, especially textiles and textile products and footwear, from several developed countries with an aggressive increase in benchmark interest rates.

"We see this has an impact on exports not only in Indonesia, but in Vietnam and Bangladesh," he said.

He said there was pressure on the export of textiles and textile products in several corporations in October 2022, while footwear exports were still quite good.

Therefore, all corporate data will continue to be monitored, starting from the trend of importing raw materials, exports, to paying taxes for income tax, value added tax (VAT), and restitution.
