JAKARTA - PT RMK Energy Tbk (RMKE) is optimistic that coal demand will still be high in the future amid the issue of energy transition.

The President Director of the Company, Tony Saputra, said that energy security is an opportunity for companies to meet domestic and foreign energy needs.

"The reality is that until today green energy does exist and will run and it will take a long time and also readiness is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand. Until today, coal is still running quite well at a low cost," he said in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 22.

According to him, with this global energy crisis currently occurring, it is the western country that echoes clean energy again using coal as one of its energy sources.

For example, Germany is again asking for coal supplies from Indonesia due to limited gas supply from Russia which is still arguing with Ukraine. "So in the future, maybe 5 to 10 years coal is still quite needed for energy generation power and industry," he continued.

Meanwhile, regarding coal prices, Tony estimates that coal prices will continue to increase and decrease in accordance with the needs and availability of raw materials.

However, he believes the need for coal in the future will continue to increase.

"The need for energy for more and less years is not decreasing, but even more. On the production side, there are also obstacles, such as the weather and purchasing of heavy equipment which are also difficult at this time even though they have money," he continued.

He added that this year RMKE targets coal transportation of 7.82 million tons and 69.80 percent has been achieved.

For the coal sales segment, management targets a volume of 2.26 million tons, of which 50 percent of the target comes from the in-house mine PT Truba Bara Banyu Enim.

As of September 2022, coal sales volume has reached 1.62 million tons or has reached 71.78 percent of the target this year.

Not only that, this year the company is targeting operating income of IDR 2.5 trillion and operating profit of IDR 375.40 billion.

"As of September 2022, 76.92 percent and 78.95 percent have been achieved, respectively," he concluded.
