In Response To The Food And Energy Crisis, The President Of The Council Of European Experts Invites G20 Members To Press Russia's Conflict With Ukraine

JAKARTA - The Russia-Ukraine conflict became one of the main topics that the European Union brought to the G20 Summit in Bali. European Expert Council President Charles Michel said the Russian-Ukraine war sparked a food and energy crisis. Therefore, Michel invited G20 member countries and all countries to put pressure on Russia to end the war. As well as inviting them to stick to the United Nations Charter (UN) to reject Russia's actions in Ukraine. "The only best way to end the acute food and energy crisis is Russia ending an unreasonable war and to respect the United Nations Charter," he said at a press conference in Bali, Tuesday, November 15. Further, Michel said, as a result of this war the number of people facing severe hunger and malnutrition increased. "This war disrupts food security and world supply chains," he explained.

Michel also hopes that the G20 meeting could be a common forum to encourage Russia to stop the war. With Russian President Vladimir Putin not attending, Michel said, this did not necessarily dampen the spirit of peace. "This forum is a good moment to encourage peace. I hope all G20 countries can urge Russia to end the war," he said.
