JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) is committed to supporting the preservation of nature and mitigation of climate change.

In addition to encouraging green plants, PLN's efforts to mitigate climate change are carried out through mangrove planting in the Teluk Panggang Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE).

Through the social and environmental responsibility program (TJSL), PLN planted 5,000 mangrove seeds in the area.

Based on the decision of the Governor of East Java Number: 188/338/KPTS/013/2020, KEE Teluk Pangpang is a mangrove and cypress conservation area because it has important ecosystem value that supports the survival of life and has been designated as a protected area in East Java.

General Manager of PLN UID East Java, Lasiran said, PLN consistently supports the achievement of net zero emissions in 2060. Various efforts have been made by PLN to achieve this goal.

"PLN consistently continues to intensify efforts to support the achievement of net zero emissions in accordance with the government's target, namely in 2060. Previously we had implemented an internal and external electric vehicle campaign, then now it is supported by the restoration of mangrove areas in Pangpang Bay," Lasiran explained in an official statement, Wednesday, November 9.

He added that this activity is part of the activities of planting 15,000 mangroves on Indonesian Tree Planting Day on November 28.

"Of course, both the convoy of 1,300 electric motors on the 77th National Electricity Day and the planting of this tree are collaborations between PLN and the East Java Provincial Government to support the achievement of clean energy targets, especially in East Java," added Lasiran.

This effort made by PLN is the company's commitment to the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in creating sustainable economic development.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of East Java, Emil Dardak, said that mangrove restoration is important because it has privileges as a carbon dioxide absorber and oxygen producer. Thus, being able to contribute to prevent climate change.

"This is indeed an effort that must continue to roll, oxygen alms through planting 5,000 mangrove seeds. The Governor and regional leaders have also carried out this activity in Tuban, Gresik, Probolinggo, along this coast will be very good to maintain marine ecosystems and habitats in it. We are grateful that PLN has taken part in improving the mangrove ecosystem in East Java," explained Emil.
