Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita is optimistic that it can meet President Joko Widodo's expectations for the production of two million electric motorcycles in Indonesia by 2024. Agus' optimism will be supported by a number of policies.

"Especially for two wheels, there is a target from the President in the shortest possible time to produce two million units by 2025. We are optimistic that it can be achieved," said Agus at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 2.

Agus added, to support this target, his party will provide support from the supply chain side to ensure that the production of electric vehicles continues to run according to plan and target.

Not only that, but the form of seriousness of government support is also reflected in the issuance of several regulations and regulations intended to accelerate the transformation from conventional to electric vehicle (EV).

"There is Presidential Regulation number 55 of 2019, Government Regulation number 74, and finally Presidential Instruction number 7 of 2022 concerning the use of battery-based electric motorized vehicles. I think this is clear evidence of the government's commitment to accelerating the transformation of conventional-based vehicles to electric-based vehicles," he said.

Agus said, in addition, the government also encourages business to business cooperation for ride-hailing in Indonesia and logistics in the use of electric vehicles as well as the insurance and financial sectors in financing and guarantees.

"So that it can accelerate the implementation of electric vehicles in Indonesia. Because it is successful or the growth of the EV market, in this case two-wheeled motorcycles, financing is an important part of the ecosystem," added Agus.

Agus revealed, currently there are 35 electric vehicle factories in Indonesia with a capacity of 1.1 million motorcycle units.

"This is capacity, yes, but the utilization is still not that high because of demand. So this demand is what we have to create through the encouragement from the government through Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2022," he concluded.
