JAKARTA - To support the Government in achieving the Net Zero Emission target by 2060, PTBA implemented good mining practices (Good Mining Practice) with decarbonization programs.

President Director of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), Arsal Ismail said, until September 2022, the total reclamation area of PTBA had reached 2,145.9 hectares (ha).

On the land, 1,334,375 tree trunks have been planted. Various types of trees planted include Senton, Jati, Mahoni, Kayu Putih, Akasia, Angsana, Merbau, Bambu, Jabon, Pinus, Johar, Longkida.

Not only land reclamation, but PTBA has implemented a number of programs to support decarbonization.

In terms of operations, the company implemented Eco Mechanized Mining, namely replacing mining equipment that uses fossil fuels to become electric.

"Some of the electrical-based tools that have been used by PTBA include 7 Nuclear Electric Excavators PC-3000, 40 dump trucks in the 100 tons hybrid (Deesel and Electricity) class, and 6 Power-based Mining Pumps," he said at a press conference in Jakarta, Thursday, October 27.

Arsal continued, the company also implemented an E-Mining Reporting System, namely a production reporting system in real time and online so as to minimize conventional monitoring using fuel.

Another step is to replace ozone-depleting materials (BPOs) such as the use of environmentally friendly air conditioning referrants and the replacement of Halon 1211 in light fire extinguishers (APARs).

PTBA is also conducting a Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) study. To encourage the birth of decarbonization technology innovations in the mining sector, PTBA held a Greenovator.

Funds of IDR 3 billion are prepared for those who are able to create innovations in CCUS and Carbon Reduction.

"These decarbonization programs are implemented and developed in a sustainable manner in each company line to provide optimal results. The company has a carbon management roadmap until 2050," he concluded.
