Japan, England, South Korea Is Willing To Become An Investor In The MRT Phase 3 And 4, Teken MoU During The G20 Presidency

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the government is eyeing several countries to become investors for the next phase of the Jakarta MRT project.

Apart from Japan, two other countries, namely England and South Korea (South Korea) are willing to become investors for the project.

"For MRT, investors are not only Japanese. But already there are from Korea and England," he said, quoted from a video press statement, Monday, October 24.

Furthermore, Budi said, these countries will immediately sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in November, in the context of the G20 Presidency.

"In G20 activities, we will carry out MoU (connects) with the three countries," he said.

For your information, the phase 1 MRT Lebak Bulus-Harmoni has been operating since 2019 and phase 2A construction has taken place.

The Ministry of Transportation and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta are encouraging study and funding for the East-West (Balaja-Cikarang) and Phase 4 (Fatmawati-TMII) phase 3 projects.

Budi claimed that Japan and Britain had agreed to become investors in the construction of the Phase 3 MRT (Balaraja-Cikarang).

Meanwhile, South Korea has also agreed to become an MRT phase 4 (Fatmawati-TMII) investor.

"If East-West is Japan and England, they have agreed, while Fatmawati is heading to TMII is Korea," he said.

Furthermore, Budi said, the East-West line MRT is currently undergoing feasibility studies (fs) for its construction.

"So we do fs for East-West in progress. And we hope it can be completed in 2023, by 2024 we will start," he explained.
