JAKARTA - Sub-holding PT PLN (Persero), PLN Indonesia Power together with ACWA Power encourages the development of floating solar power plants (PLTS) Singkarak and Saguling with a capacity of 50 megawatt ac (MWac) and 60 MWac with a total investment of 104.95 million US dollars.
This effort is a form of PLN's support for the energy transition in the G20 Summit presidency in November.
Apart from the EBT development side, PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo through his statement in Makassar, Wednesday, said that the development of the Floating PLTS would revolutionize the development of domestic EBT.
" “ We hope that this project will be able to make a significant contribution in the development of the EBT business in Indonesia," Darmawan said in the Stated-Owned Enterprises (SOE) International Conference, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 20.
The development of the Singkarak Floating PLTS is planned with a capacity of 50 MWac with a COD target in 2025, while the Terapung Saguling PLTS is planned with a capacity of 60 MWac which is expected to be COD in 2024.
As an effort to develop, PLN has carried out a feasibility study for licensing and has been declared a National Strategic Project.
The development of the Singkarak Floating PLTS will stand above 0.33 percent of the total area of the Singkarak lake. As for the Terapung Saguling PLTS, it will use 1.69 percent of the total surface area of the reservoir.
Darmawan said that with the development of the Singkarak and Saguling Floating PLTS, PLN continued its commitment to using EBT by utilizing domestic potential.
The Singkarak Floating PLTS is located in Lake Singkarak, West Sumatra. When operating, electricity will be channeled via 150 kV interconnection to GI Padang Panjang 150 kV. Meanwhile, the Floating Saguling PLTS is located in West Bandung Regency. The generated electrical energy will be channeled through 150 kV interconnection to GI Rajamandala.
It is known, ACWA Power currently has a Portfolio in 43 GW of power generation, of which nearly 15.5 GW (36 percent of the total portfolio) is an EBT power plant.
Previously, PLN through its subsidiary PLN Nusantara Power had experience in the construction of the Cirata Floating PLTS in West Java. PLTS, which is in the construction stage and has a capacity of 145 MWac, will become the largest floating PLTS in Southeast Asia.
The syndicates of three international banks, namely Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), Societe Generale and Standard Chartered Bank, have funded the construction of the largest floating PLTS in Southeast Asia with a value of around US$140 million.
"This is the seriousness of PLN as the frontline for the energy transition in Indonesia, towards electricity that is increasingly environmentally friendly and sustainable can be realized soon," said Darmawan.
