JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif during the 2022 76th Mining and Energy Anniversary Ceremony in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 4, spoke about mineral downstreaming and energy transition.

According to him, currently the energy sector policy is directed at a sustainable and sovereign transition to support economic growth and encourage industrial development.

Arifin said policy directions are prioritized for energy availability by maximizing the use of new and renewable energy at affordable prices and environmentally friendly extractive activities.

"Along with the mandate of Law Number 3 of 2020 concerning Mineral and Coal, we must carry out mineral downstream optimally to be able to provide added value for the employment industry which must be integrated at will," said Arifin in his remarks which was monitored through the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tuesday.

Arifin added that these strategic efforts will have a broad impact on the national economy, such as increasing foreign exchange from investment and exports, as well as increasing the number of labor absorption.

For this reason, he asked his staff serving in the ESDM ministry to always adapt to the development of the world energy sector which is moving fast.

"Every ESDM person is expected to improve performance through rapid, careful, and effective innovation," he said.

Meanwhile, continued Arifin, the development of new and renewable energy in the future is still a challenge that must be resolved and at the same time, equitable distribution and affordability of energy access in presenting energy independence remains a priority for the government.

"The government also needs to maintain programs that are in direct contact with the people, including one fuel, gas network, electricity distribution equipment, public street lighting for solar power, and other pro-people activities," he said.

Not only that, he said, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources must also build energy infrastructure, including transmission for gas, transmission for electricity in order to maintain the availability of energy for all of our communities in the country.
