Reporting Pak Jokowi, The Latest Economic Cooperation With Japan Is Ready To Be Announced At The G20 Summit

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry stated that Indonesia and Japan continue to strive to increase cooperation in the manufacturing sector through strategic steps and implementation of the commitments that have been made.

Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said one of the agendas that the two countries focused on was the completion of the protocol for amendments to the Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJ-EPA) economic agreement.

"This commitment will later be announced by the two heads of state during the G20 Summit in November 2022 in Bali," he said in an official statement quoted on Friday, September 9.

According to the Minister of Industry, strengthening this commitment will open wider access and offer more substantive officials in relation to trade in goods trading products.

"Hopefully this will be a win-win solution for both parties," he said.

Meanwhile, several issues that are still being negotiated in the IJ-EPA cooperation include trade in goods, services, economic cooperation, the movement of individuals (MNP), and the rules of origin (Rule of Origin).

Then, there are also issues related to industry, implementation of New MIDEC and improving officials on steel products.

Meanwhile, on the agenda of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia expects support from the Minister of Economics, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) for the sustainability of industrial inclusion in discussions at the G20 forum.

In Trade, Investment, and Industry Working Group (TIIWG) of the G20 Indonesia Presidency 2022, the Indonesian government proposes industrial inclusion in discussions and hopes that the discussion of these industrial issues can be carried out continuously at the next Presidency.

In addition, Indonesia expects support from Japan for accelerating the achievement of zero emissions through innovative technology cooperation such as hydrogen technology and ammonia.

"We also want support for Japan's new knowledge and technology to support several strategic Indonesian projects, especially for downstreaming natural commodities, developing electric cars and motors, as well as the health and food sectors," he said.

The Minister of Industry appreciates the commitment of Japanese automotive companies that continue to increase their investment in Indonesia, such as Mitsubishi which is committed to increasing investment for new models including hybrid types and electric vehicles.
