JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that the government has initiated various policies to support the development of digital talent.

"In 2030, it is predicted that there will be a shortage of 47 million digital talents in the Asia Pacific region and currently, Indonesia needs around 600 thousand digital talents every year. For this reason, the Government has initiated various policies," said Airlangga Hartarto, quoted from Antara, Friday, September 2.

Airlangga explained that the value of Indonesia's digital economy in 2021 touched the highest number in the ASEAN region and reached 70 billion US dollars.

This value is predicted to increase to US$330 billion by 2030.

With this rapid increase, said Airlangga, the need for digital talent as the main navigator in driving the digital ecosystem has also increased, so the Government is also trying to encourage the development of digital talent and infrastructure through various policies.

One of the policies initiated by the Government is the Pre-Employment Card Program which is end-to-end digital to develop work competencies and entrepreneurship in the form of cost assistance.

The benefit value of the Pre-Employment Card reaches up to Rp. 3.55 million for each individual and has targeted more than 13 million beneficiaries from 514 districts/cities.

The government has also implemented Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as the core part of the education curriculum at all levels of education.

In addition to supporting efforts to increase digital research and innovation, especially for the development of MSME businesses and start-ups, as well as increasing investment in the fields of research, development, and application of innovative digital technology.

Furthermore, Airlangga also explained that the Government is also trying to expand connectivity by building various digital infrastructures ranging from the Fiber Optic Palapa Ring Network, Base Transceiver Station Tower (BTS), Satria Multifunction Satellite on relatively small islands, expanding 4G coverage and implementing 5G, to the construction of National Data Centers in a number of strategic locations.

Not only that, but the acceleration of digitalization is also one of the main agendas of Indonesia's G20 Presidency to encourage concrete deliverables for more inclusive and sustainable digital transformation.

Digital literacy will also be part of ASEAN's target in the form of a Digital Economy Framework which is expected to be encouraged through Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN in 2023.
