JAKARTA - Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia has revoked 2,065 mining business permits (IUP). This amount is 98.4 percent of the total target of 2,078 IUPs.

The revocation of the additional permit is a follow-up to the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, because the thousands of companies have not started their business even though they already have an IUP.

"Revocation of permits from 2,078 IUPs, which have been revoked are 2,065 permits or 98.4 percent of 3.11 million hectares," Bahlil said in a virtual press conference, Friday, August 12.

Of the total IUP revoked, 306 coal IUP covering an area of 9,413 hectares, 307 IUP tin covering an area of 445,352 hectares, 106 IUP nickel covering an area of 182,094 hectares. Then, there are 71 gold IUPs covering an area of 544,708 hectares.

Then, there are 54 bauxite mines covering an area of 356,328 hectares and 18 copper IUPs covering an area of 70,663 hectares. And 1,203 other mineral IUPs covering an area of 599,126 hectares. These other minerals are included in the C.

Based on the distribution area, the majority of IUPs revoked are in West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Bangka Belitung Islands, Central Kalimantan, and Papua.

Furthermore, Bahlil said the government provided space for entrepreneurs to object from a total of 2,078 IUPs that were revoked. It is noted that there have been more than 700 IUP objections. From the number of objections, said Bahlil, the government is in the early stages of verifying the first 200 IUPs.

"From the first 200 IUPs that were verified, there are 75 to 80 permits that we will recover," said Bahlil.

Bahlil stressed that the government is unlikely to be unjust in revoking the IUP. Therefore, Bahlil explained that if later when verification is found that the permits have been running and are in production, or there is an error from the government, the government will make repairs accordingly.
