TANGERANG - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto officially opened the 2022 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Thursday, August 11.

Airlangga praised the GIIAS 2022 theme 'The Future Is Bright' which presents more choices of electric vehicles or electric vehicles (EV) for the people of the country.

According to Coordinating Minister Airlangga, the government has provided many incentives to introduce electric vehicles in Indonesia through various regulations.

"The government has issued incentives through PP Number 74 of 2021 and PP Number 73 of 2019 concerning Taxable Goods Classified as Luxury in the Form of Motorized Vehicles Subject to Sales Tax on Luxury Goods," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga when opening GIIAS 2022 in South Tangerang.

Airlangga said regulations and incentives from the government were positively welcomed by automotive manufacturers through the large number of electric vehicles at this year's exhibition.

In fact, he continued, this year's GIIAS became the exhibition for electric vehicles the most compared to previous years.

"I think there are relatively more electric cars (EVs) this time compared to previous GIIAS exhibitions. I appreciate it, congratulations," said Airlangga.

According to him, policies and subsidies from the government can make the price of electric vehicles competitive with conventional oil-fueled vehicles.

Airlangga admitted that the government also encouraged PLN to prepare an ecosystem for electric vehicles, through electric charging stations.

"PLN is also encouraged to create a charging station ecosystem so that it is easier for people to choose EVs, which are currently starting to be able to compete in the Rp 200-300 million range," he said.

In fact, Airlangga is optimistic that Indonesia will be able to become an exporter of vehicle products abroad.

Currently, automotive products from Indonesia have been exported to more than 80 countries in the world.

"This is proof that Indonesia's manufacturing capability continues to improve," said Airlangga.

Chairman III and Chairman of the GAIKINDO Exhibition Organizer Rizwan Alamsjah admitted that GIIAS 2022 indeed made electric vehicles one of the main focuses.

In fact, visitors can also try electric vehicles directly during the exhibition which lasts 10 days starting today until August 21, 2022.

"To introduce the public to the various advantages of electric vehicles, GIIAS 2022 prepares a special area that is indoors, the GIIAS Electric Vehicle (EV) Test Track," said Rizwan Alamsjah.
