Ensure Restructuring And Transformation Runs Positively, Garuda Indonesia Is Ready To Fly Higher

JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir stated that the restructuring and transformation carried out by the national airline Garuda Indonesia in the last two months had shown positive results and went as expected.

"The results of the limited coordination meeting show that the transformation of Garuda Indonesia has shown a positive performance. Garuda Indonesia is ready to fly higher," he said, quoted from the official Instagram @erickthohir, Thursday, August 11.

This was conveyed by Erick Thohir after attending a coordination meeting at the office of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Lapangan Banteng, Wednesday, August 10. Besides Erick, the meeting chaired by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto was also attended by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang, and Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono.

Erick said, during the restructuring and transformation, Garuda Indonesia has shown a positive performance. Although there is still a long way to go, these temporary results encourage the Ministry of SOEs and Garuda to continue to carry out the next stage of transformation.

“With the transformation and restructuring of the company, Garuda Indonesia managed to record positive profits in the last two months. There is still a long way to go," he said.

Garuda's achievement, said Erick, cannot be separated from the support of the Ministry of Finance which has injected Rp7.5 trillion as State Capital Participation (PMN).

"With the support of the Ministry of Finance which has provided funds of Rp. 7.5 trillion and also directions from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation, Garuda will fly higher and higher," he said.

Erick also appreciates the hard work that has been done by the company. "I appreciate the performance of all employees and management who have contributed to posting positive profits in the last two months, after all this time struggling in bankruptcy conditions," he said.

On this occasion, Erick said that in the midst of an uncertain global situation, domestic flights are quite promising because Indonesia is a large archipelagic country and has a population of more than 275 million.

Therefore, continued Erick, Garuda, as the airline of the pride of the Indonesian nation, which is 75 years old, must improve its performance and leave the old patterns that made the company bankrupt.

"Garuda Indonesia's focus going forward is to serve the domestic market to help move the wheels of the regional economy. Become a liaison between islands, cities, and also regions to weave unity," he explained.
