JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has distributed 511,892 megawatt hour (MWh) of green electricity through a new renewable energy certificate (EBT) or Renewable Energy Certificate (REC). The amount flows to more than 160 business and industrial customers through June 2022.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo appreciates the support of PLN customers who have supported the clean energy transition program by utilizing REC.

"This is clear evidence of PLN's collaboration with industry players to support the clean energy transition in the country. The revenue from this REC will later be allocated for NRE development. This is in line with Indonesia's commitment as the host of the G20 Presidency to reduce world carbon emissions," said Darmawan to the media, Thursday, August 4th.

He explained, REC is one of PLN's green product innovations to make it easier for customers to get recognition for the use of NRE that is transparent, accountable and internationally recognized and without having to spend investment costs for infrastructure development.

"Through REC, PLN presents a procurement option to meet the target of up to 100 percent of the use of renewable energy. The procurement or purchase method is relatively easy and fast," he said.

Darmawan also ensures that the energy used by customers comes from EBT-based power plants that are verified by an international tracking system, APX TIGRs, located in California, United States.

Currently, PLN's green energy plants registered with APX are the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) with a capacity of 140 MW, the Lahendong PLTP 80 MW and the Bakaru PLTA 130 MW, or equivalent to 2,500,000 MWh per year. Customers whose location is separate from the green energy generator are also possible to enjoy REC services.

Not only from PLN's EBT plants, continued Darmawan, the source of electricity supply for REC services can also come from NRE power plants owned by independent power producers (IPPs) who sell their electricity to PLN.

In the power purchase agreement, it has been agreed that PLN is the offtaker for all of the sold EBT power plants with the aim of providing investors with a guaranteed return on capital as mandated in government regulations.

"Based on this regulation, the EBT attribute of the NRE-based private power plant belongs to PLN. So customers can buy REC directly from PLN," Darmawan explained.

Customers can purchase PLN REC, both for individuals and corporations, through the website https://service.pln.co.id/renewable-energy-certificate.
