JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia is targeting as many as seven markets in the Healthy, Innovative, and Safe to Use Market and Shopping Center Program (SIAP) Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri).

"For Riau Islands Province, the QRIS SIAP Program targets one shopping center and seven markets, namely One Batam Mall, Mitra Raya I Market, Puja Bahari Market, Penuin Market in Batam City. Then Puan Maimun Market and Sri Market in Karimun Regency. Pasar Baru I in Tanjungpinang City and Barek Motor Market in Bintan Regency," said Head of Bank Indonesia for Riau Islands Province, Musni Hardi K Atmaja, as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 21.

He explained, Puan Maimun Market in Karimun Regency was the first market that met the criteria for the READY QRIS program with the number of traders who already had QRIS reaching 153 traders or 30 percent of the total traders.

According to Musni, the SIAP QRIS market/shopping center is a trading center where some of the merchants have received contactless or digital QRIS payments in order to encourage more hygienic, easier and safer transactions to support the national economic recovery.

In addition, the presence of the SIAP QRIS program is expected to be replicated in all public markets and shopping centers in Riau Islands.

"Through the well-established synergy between Bank Indonesia and local governments, banks, market managers, and other relevant authorities/parties, Bank Indonesia is optimistic that the QRIS expansion program in markets can continue," he said.

Musni added, Bank Indonesia Kepri is targeting hundreds of thousands of new QRIS users.

"Especially for Riau Islands, the target is 102,000 new QRIS users. Therefore, merchants have an important role to achieve this target," he said.

After reaching the target of 12 million QRIS merchants nationwide this year, Bank Indonesia is targeting 15 million new QRIS users to support the national economic recovery.
