Member Of The House Of Representatives Commission XI From PKS Reminds The Government To Maintain Price Stability To Face Potential Inflation Surge

JAKARTA - Government policies need to focus on various effective measures in order to maintain national price stability in order to suppress the potential for inflation spikes that have hit a number of countries globally.

"It is true that the US (United States) inflation spike after the war in Ukraine and Russia. The high US inflation this year certainly has an impact on several countries, including Indonesia," said Member of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Anis Byarwati, quoted from Antara, Saturday, July 16.

According to Anis, who is also the deputy chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives' State Financial Accountability Agency (BAKN), inflation in the US is considered to be closely related to the increase in interest rates.

In addition, a number of parties are said to have pressured Bank Indonesia to immediately raise interest rates to save themselves from the impact of US inflation.

"The Fed's (US central bank) plan to raise interest rates to suppress inflation is what can encourage an increase in the US dollar, trigger capital outflows, and also increase in commodity prices, which will have an impact on rising inflation in our country," he explained.

Anis stressed that the most important thing at this time is how the Government maintains people's purchasing power, because inflation will have an impact on price increases which are currently not matched by an increase in income, especially for the lower middle class.

"The condition of our society is currently in the recovery period due to the impact of the pandemic, and it is unfortunate that the community must be directly faced with the soaring prices of various basic needs which will further reduce purchasing power," he continued.

The Chairperson of the PKS DPP for Economics and Finance stressed that the Government must maintain stability in fuel prices by trying hard not to increase fuel, electricity and gas because this will further burden the community.

According to him, the government must also increase its alignment with MSMEs, including ultra-micro businesses, as well as providing subsidies for farmers and fishermen, as one of the inflation controls.

Previously, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) asked local governments to increase synergy with the central government in maintaining price stability for basic goods, such as cooking oil so that inflation is maintained.

"Today I was received by the Governor together with mayors and regents throughout the Lampung Province and all elements of the regional leadership meeting (Muspida) to discuss, especially regarding the availability of food at affordable prices, especially cooking oil," Zulhas said while attending a coordination meeting with regional heads in Lampung. , in Bandar Lampung, Tuesday 12 July.

According to him, the stability of prices for basic necessities is one of the keys to the success of the government in meeting the needs of the community.
