JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary, Indonesia Power, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tangerang Regency Government in the management of municipal waste and the utilization of coal combustion residues or Fly Ash Bottom Ash (FABA) at the PLTU owned by IP in Tangerang.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained, currently Indonesia Power has produced one million tons of FABA which can be used by the community around the PLTU for various needs.

"Since the government stated that FABA is not B3 waste, we have assessed that this combustion residue can be an item of economic value and can be used by the community for construction needs," said Darmawan in an official statement, Saturday, July 2.

By collaborating with the Tangerang Regency Government, said Darmawan, PLN is optimistic that the use of FABA can be a driving force for the people's economy. In addition, this FABA can be used by the Regency Government in road repairs and construction raw materials.

Besides being able to produce concrete, paving blocks, bricks, wall panels, FABA can also be used as material for stockpiling in mine reclamation, lime substitution.

Not only managing the ash from the PLTU combustion, this collaboration with the Tangerang Regency Government is also for the management of municipal waste which can be processed into Solid Jumputan Fuel (BBJP) for coal replacement fuel (co-firing) for Steam Power Plants (PLTU).

"Currently, the issue of municipal waste is still a homework that has not been fully handled. Through this collaboration, PLN is helping the Regency Government to process municipal waste to become an energy source that has economic value," Darmawan continued.

Currently, the PLN Group has successfully implemented co-firing technology in 32 steam power plants throughout Indonesia and produces green energy of up to 487 Gigawatt hours (GWh).

Through co-firing, PLN is able to quickly increase its new renewable energy mix without the need to build new power plants. This achievement is proof of PLN's seriousness in supporting the Government in accelerating the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) towards the 23 percent target in 2025.

In addition to the use of FABA and waste management, PLN's collaboration with the Tangerang Regency Government also includes Environmental Social Responsibility (TJSL) programs, community and women empowerment to the management of biodiversity, environment and water resources in Tangerang Regency.
