JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is building a suspension bridge at Keca Seruni Point in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN), East Java (East Java).

Head of the Geotechnical, Tunnel and Highways Structure Center for the Ministry of PUPR Fahmi Aldiamar said the glass pedestrian bridge stretches for 120 meters with a width of 1.8 meters in the main span and 3 meters at the beginning and middle of the span, located above a ravine with a depth of about 80 meters.

The suspension bridge floor/deck structure system is in the form of laminated glass consisting of two or more sheets of glass, which are glued together using one or more interlayers with a total thickness of 25.55 mm.

This bridge structure is equipped with double protection steel in the form of galvanized steel coated with epoxy paint to make it more resistant to rust.

The bridge, which was built with the suspended cable type, is targeted for completion by the end of September 2022.

Until now, the physical progress of the work has reached approximately 50 percent.

The construction is in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (LHK) because it crosses the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park area and the Probolinggo Regency Government (Pemkab) as a provider of land for one foot of the bridge.

The presence of this glass bridge is an adrenaline tourist destination that connects the Seruni Point Tourism Terminal with the Shuttle Area with views of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeru.

Thus, this bridge is expected to increase tourist visits to the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru KSPN.

Fahmi added, the first glass bridge in Indonesia was built with comprehensive planning calculations according to standards and through a laboratory test process so that this bridge will be safe to function for tourists.

"We will strive so that the construction of the glass bridge can be completed according to the planned time. In the future, the operational management of the glass bridge will be carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Probolinggo Regency Government so that it can increase the number of tourists to Bromi and can increase the economic cycle, especially improving the welfare of local residents," said Fahmi in a written statement, Sunday, June 26.
