JAKARTA - Ahead of Eid al-Adha, PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (Persero) or Food Holding ID FOOD is taking a number of strategic steps to prevent the spread of Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) in livestock.

ID FOOD takes preventive steps that are carried out collaboratively with government agencies, BUMN, and the private sector.

The President Director of ID FOOD, Frans M Tambunan, said that these strategic steps were intensively carried out through PT Berdikari holding members, members of ID FOOD, who were engaged in the livestock sector.

Frans said, through Berdikari, ID FOOD has collaborated with the Animal Quarantine Center (BKH) to prevent the spread of PMK during cattle mobilization.

In addition, his party has also increased supervision and monitoring as well as prevention socialization to all ID FOOD Group partners, such as the Traders Association and Breeder Partners.

"We have done prevention of PMK from an early age, some of them are by not including livestock from areas affected by PMK, as well as cooperating with BKH to carry out quarantine/monitoring/isolation measures for newly purchased livestock or coming to the cage location," he said in an official statement, Friday, June 17th.

Currently, said Frans, the company is also limiting official visits from other agencies to cattle and sheep pens, as well as implementing strict biosecurity procedures in PT Berdikari's farm area.

"We carry out regular monitoring of live cattle. If you have symptoms that indicate FMD, an isolation procedure is immediately carried out, the tightening process on the biosecurity of the cage is increased, both for equipment officers and including animal feed," he said.

Frans added that animal health workers are always available at the Berdikari cage facility to diagnose sick animals.

If it shows specific symptoms of PMK, it will be immediately reported to the Independent Management and the local Livestock Service Office.

Furthermore, said Frans, there will be a procedure for separating the equipment for handling sick and healthy livestock (clothing, boots, and other equipment), as well as seeking vaccines for livestock.

Healthy Livestock Distribution

Meanwhile, President Director of PT Berdikari Harry Warganegara said that in order to maintain the availability of livestock stock ahead of Eid al-Adha, Berdikari distributed healthy livestock between islands.

One of them is with the help of the sea toll road initiated by the Ministry of Transportation and the synergy with the National Food Agency.

Harry hopes that this step can help distribute healthy livestock that are needed to meet the demand for qurbani on Eid al-Adha.

Berdikari has a stock of 1,464 cows spread across West Java and South Sulawesi.

"To maintain beef stock, Berdikari distributes beef, both fresh and frozen to partners. In June, Berdikari imported frozen beef from Brazil, where up to this June 4,250 tons will come in. Berdikari has ordered a total of 4,250 tons. 9,092 tons of frozen boneless meat," he said.

Harry explained that the previously arrived meat had been confirmed to be safe from PMK after going through a series of inspections for the PMK virus by the Center for Veterinary Farma, Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture.

"We make sure all beef distributed by Berdikari is healthy and safe," said Harry.
