Here's Sandiaga Uno's Efforts To Make Ticket Prices Affordable

JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno seeks to increase the number of flights to Indonesia in the hope that ticket prices can be more affordable.

"We are talking with several airlines to increase the number of flight frequencies, so that it is hoped that flight ticket prices will be more affordable and there will also be promotional packages," said Sandiaga Uno as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, May 24.

Currently, he continued, the phenomenon of revenge travel or the number of seats and the number of travelers are not comparable is happening.

According to Sandiaga, flight ticket prices have increased because there are more travelers than the number of seats.

“This is the law of economics. We are currently exploring opportunities to open new routes and new routes and add passengers," he said.

Therefore, he will prioritize the arrival of airlines from five countries that contribute the most foreign tourist arrivals to Bali, namely Australia, England, France, Singapore and the United States.

"We will continue to improve tourism competitiveness with competing countries. We hope this will further stimulate the economy and the target of 1.8 million to 3.6 million (foreign tourist visits) can hopefully be achieved," said Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Nia Niscaya, admitted that she would coordinate with a number of aviation associations and the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) to encourage additional flights to Indonesia.

"At least it's back to how it was before the (COVID-19) pandemic, because airlines haven't fully recovered," Nia said.
