BALIKPAPAN - The fire team at the Balikpapan Refinery PT Pertamina Internasional Refinery has succeeded in extinguishing the flames that appeared at plant 5, Unit Hydro Skimming Complex. The fire was extinguished around 11.31 WITA.

Area Manager of Communication, Relations & CSR of the Balikpapan Refinery said that Ely Chandra is currently discontinuing its operations for Plant 5.

This plant produces gasoline as raw material, and to meet the demand for raw material production, stock optimization in tanks and production arrangements at the Balikpapan refinery will be carried out.

Currently, he said, the internal team is continuing to make efforts to recover the Balikpapan refinery's operations so that they can return to maximum operation as soon as possible.

For the time being, supply transfer is being prepared in coordination with the Pertamina Group to ensure that there is no disruption in the supply of fuel to the community.

It was previously reported that one person died and 5 were injured in a fire incident at the Pertamina refinery in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Sunday, May 15. "The victim who died was an employee of our contractor," said Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery General Manager (GM) Wahyu Sulistyo Wibowo as reported by Antara. Of the 5 injured victims, 3 Pertamina employees and 2 contractor employees. The three Pertamina employees suffered burns and were being treated intensively at the Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital (RSPB). The two contractor employees have been allowed to go home, also after being treated at the RSPB.
