Earthquake Resistant Houses Can Be Adopted By Property Developers To Build Future Residential

JAKARTA - Property consultant Knight Frank Indonesia assesses that the concept of an earthquake-resistant RISHA house or Simple Healthy Instant House can be adopted by property developers in developing residential areas in areas with earthquake risk.

"The value of materials, structures and earthquake-resistant designs from the RISHA concept can be used as adaptation points that property actors can adopt in developing residential areas in areas with earthquake risk," said Senior Research Advisor Knight Frank Indonesia Syarifah Syaukat to Antara in Jakarta. , Friday.

According to him, innovation is needed to ensure that housing is not only a shelter or a place of protection for its residents from rain and hot sun, but also from natural disasters, such as earthquakes.

RISHA or Simple Healthy Instant House is one of the building models introduced by the Ministry of PUPR as an earthquake-resistant building/house, with knock down technology with a lightweight steel frame.

Geographically, Indonesia is located between 3 continental plates (Australia, Eurasia and the Pacific) in this fractured region of the world connected to the world's ring of fire, especially in the western part of Sumatra Island and southern part of Java Island, as well as parts of Sulawesi and Maluku islands.

The path of the ring of fire is the path of the world's earthquakes. Thus, earthquakes are one of the natural phenomena that need to be recognized and anticipated in development in Indonesia, especially in the earthquake risk path (the ring of fire path).

"The growing property industry cannot be separated from the physical challenges of the Indonesian territory, including the limitations of areas at risk of earthquakes. According to the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, there were 26 destructive earthquakes throughout 2021, this figure is the highest number in the last 20 years, "said Syarifah Saukat.

He explained that disaster adaptation from the property sector can be realized, among others, through efforts to develop buildings in areas with medium-low disaster risk need to follow existing signs, including following disaster-resistant building procedures through disaster-resistant building certificates.

In addition, as an effort to reduce disaster risk, it is also necessary to prepare building insurance instruments from disaster risk.

Syarifah Syaukat also added that basically making earthquake-resistant buildings recognized and attractive to the public is the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in the property sector.
