JAKARTA - PT Bank Mandiri Tbk is ready to try its business expansion by exploring the Metaverse ecosystem. This expansion plan is realized through a collaboration with WIR Group, which is a leading developer of augmented reality and Metaverse technology in Southeast Asia.

President Director of Bank Mandiri Darmawan Junaidi said that until now his party and WIR Group are still in the exploration stage and in the process of understanding the values contained in the metaverse.

"The continuation of the collaboration between Bank Mandiri and the WIR Group regarding the metaverse, until now the metaverse for Mandiri is still at a very early stage, so we together with WIR are still in the process of exploring," said Darmawan in a virtual press conference on performance exposure, Wednesday 27 April.

He continued, with this Metaverse, Bank Mandiri will also contribute to the growth of Indonesia's digital economy, which is in line with the vision of the Indonesian government.

"Together we will have an understanding that this metaverse community if we can collaborate, business opportunities can be created and can be a win-win solution for both the community and for Bank Mandiri," continued Darmawan.

Previously, this state-owned bank collaborated with a technology development company, WIR Group to enter the metaverse ecosystem which was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Bank Mandiri and WIR Group on Wednesday, March 16 last.

Darmawan explained that the presence of the financial services industry in Metaverse has just entered the initial development stage. He did not rule out the possibility that this virtual world will become the location for the development of advanced technology-based future banking.

"We believe that the future of digital banking will certainly be very different from today," he said.

For information, Metaverse is a platform based on AR, VR and AI technology that is able to create interactions in a unique virtual world, just like an urban lifestyle in real life.

Meanwhile, the bank with the ticker issuer of BMRI considers that the potential for digital finance in Indonesia is very large, which can be seen from the portion of internet users reaching 73 percent of the current total population.

"In the future, many new features will be developed, including Metaverse. Bank Mandiri will consistently provide the best, fresher value proposition and banking experience, and continue to prioritize customer security and convenience in accessing our various services," concluded Darmawan.
