Pakuwon Jati, Owned By Conglomerate Alexander Tedja, Cannot Confirm The Loss Due To The Tunjungan Plaza Fire

JAKARTA - PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk (PWON) confirmed that it could not state the total loss caused by the fire incident that hit the Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya shopping center, Wednesday evening. Because it's still being investigated.

"We are still investigating (the loss)," said Minarto Basuki, Director and Corporate Secretary of PT Pakuwon Jati Tbk, to VOI, Thursday, April 14.

As is known, Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya, East Java caught fire on Wednesday evening. The source of the fire came from the 5th floor of Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya. The fire was extinguished a few moments later.

The Surabaya Polrestabes dispatched a team to investigate the cause of the fire at the Tunjungan Plaza Surabaya Shopping Center, Wednesday evening.

"Investigations are still ongoing," said Head of Surabaya Polrestabes Kombes Akhmad Yusep Gunawan at the scene, Wednesday, April 13 evening.

Yusep, who accompanied the Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi to inspect the location of the fire, explained that the Indonesian Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (INAFIS) team from the Surabaya Police had gone to the scene of the fire.

Meanwhile, Eri Cahyadi said the source of the fire was suspected to have come from the kitchen where the restaurant is located at Tunjungan Plaza 5, Jalan Embong Malang, Surabaya.

"The exact cause is still being investigated by Porelstabes Surabaya," said Eri as quoted by Antara.

Eri and Yusep saw the damage caused by the fire which was thought to have originated on the 5th floor and the fire spread upwards through the sewer network to the 12th floor.

When inspecting the location of the fire, Eri admitted that he felt the thick smoke of the fire on the 5th floor of Tunjungan Plaza 5 Surabaya.

"The damage occurred on floors 5 to 12 of Tunjungan Plaza. The smoke was very thick on the 5th floor," he said.
