JAKARTA - The government continues to provide social assistance (bansos) to the community amid the ongoing threat of rising prices for basic necessities.

Most recently, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that the government would immediately distribute assistance in cash to certain workers who are considered to have a high level of vulnerability.

"There is a new program from the President in the form of wage subsidy assistance for employees whose salaries are below Rp. 3.5 million," he said through an online channel during a press conference at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 5.

According to Airlangga, the scheme will be spread to workers throughout Indonesia with a budget of up to trillions of rupiah.

"Every worker who enters this program will be given Rp. 1 million per recipient with a target of 8.8 million people and a budget requirement of Rp. 8.8 trillion," he said.

The government itself has actually provided social protection funds (perlinsos) of Rp. 154.76 trillion which is included in the 2022 Economic Recovery Program (PEN). Meanwhile, the focus of this social protection is to maintain the purchasing power of the poor, and to tackle extreme poverty.
