President Joko Widodo has said that Indonesia will achieve Net Zero Emission (NZE) in 2060 or sooner. Various measures and policies continue to be taken in order to pursue green energy targets in the country through the NZE target.

However, Deputy Chairperson of Commission VII DPR RI Maman Abdurahman asked the government to pay attention to the potential of fossil fuels owned by Indonesia before fully transforming into NRE.

"In principle, there is no need to argue that Indonesia will indeed shift to NRE, but we must not waste the potential of fossil fuels which are still abundant," Maman said in the Economic Challenge MetroTV discussion, Wednesday, March 23.

According to him, the potential for fossil fuels such as coal and Indonesian oil is still very promising, as can be seen from the still high domestic demand and to support the national economy.

The issue of energy transition, continued Maman, is a global issue for western countries that should be adapted to the internal problems of each country.

"Indonesia is also invited to participate. Indeed, we are going there but we must understand that we cannot immediately force other countries to implement it as quickly as possible," he said.

Maman appreciates the government's move that has the political will to make an energy transition, but don't be in a hurry to make the transition and don't take advantage of the abundant natural resources.
