The President Inaugurates Electric Car Factory, PLN Ready To Provide 24,720 General Electric Vehicle Charging Station Until 2030

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo inaugurated the first electric car factory in Indonesia. Through the inauguration of this electric car factory, the President hopes to encourage the development of electric cars in Indonesia so that they can become the main mode of transportation for the Indonesian state.

Not only electric cars, the President also said that Indonesia will also start the establishment of a battery cell factory this year. With the existence of an electric car battery factory, Indonesia can become a major player in the electric vehicle industry and ecosystem.

"We have nickel, cobalt and bauxite, all of which are the main components of battery cells and electric vehicles. 2022 is an important moment for lithium battery development," said the President, Thursday, March 17.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo, who was also present with the President at the inauguration, stated that he was ready to support the massiveness of this electric vehicle. With the massive number of electric vehicles, the carbon-neutral target in 2060 can be achieved.

"We, PLN, of course, fully support and play an active role in building an electric vehicle ecosystem. Starting from electricity infrastructure, supply to creating the ecosystem," he said.

Darmawan explained, PLN has done many things in reducing carbon emissions in the electricity sector. Starting from the massive construction of NRE power plants contained in the RUPTL as well as several programs such as PLTD dedieselization, PLTU retirement to the co-firing program at the PLTU.

"We hope that with the massive number of electric vehicles, emission reductions in the transportation sector can be achieved. Because emission reductions are not only from the electricity sector but also transportation," said Darmawan.

To support this plan, PLN targets to have 24,720 public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) for electric vehicles until 2030. Currently, there are a total of 267 SPKLU units in 195 locations spread throughout Indonesia.

PLN also provides bundling incentives for electric vehicle owners in the form of discounts on added power and the installation of a home charging station for free.
