JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) together with the French Development Agency (AFD-Agence Française de Développement) will develop a Wind Power Plant (PLTB) with a total estimated capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) in Banten.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo explained, for the initial stage PLN has carried out a Pre-Feasibility Study (Pre-FS) for the construction of this PLTB in the Pandeglang area. The wind potential that can be managed in this area reaches 350 MW. As the first stage, PLN will build a PLTB with a capacity of 200 MW.

"This is one of our commitments in achieving the energy mix target which is also in line with reducing global emissions, where the Banten PLTB has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 540 thousand tons of CO2 per year," said Darmawan.

Darmawan explained that work on this project will start this year. The target is that by 2025 this PLTB will be able to fully operate.

"We have completed the Pre-FS in 2020. This is one of the pilot projects for the development of the first PLTB in Java and Bali, so this project is very important," said Darmawan.

AFD often cooperates with Indonesia in encouraging the creation of clean energy and reducing carbon emissions in Indonesia. In this collaboration with PLN, AFD will assist PLN by providing technical assistance in the form of feasibility studies and PLN's capacity development for relatively new technologies, in the form of a partnership agreement for Banten Wind Farm Power Development, as a form of contribution to the energy transition in Indonesia.

"This collaboration not only prepares the PLTB to run optimally but also prepares PLN's human resources to increase capacity by transferring knowledge from AFD," said Darmawan.

Until 2021, the installed capacity of PLTB in Indonesia will reach 131 MW or 0.2 percent of the energy mix. The target is that in 2025, with the entry of the Banten PLTB, the level of the NRE mix, especially in the wind utilization sector, can increase to 7.7 percent.
