Wow! Ministry Of Transportation Calls Many Transportation Officials Become Fake KIR Brokers

JAKARTA - Cases of falsification of vehicle feasibility test (KIR) documents are still happening today. But surprisingly, the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) revealed that the perpetrators of the counterfeiting were actually former Transportation officials.

The Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Budi Setiyadi said that counterfeiting usually occurs because so far the KIR test is carried out twice a year, so many drivers don't want to bother bringing their vehicles to the test site. They choose to ask brokers to help them.

"This service bureau is playing the counterfeit. So it's as if the operator was tricked into being given a card, it turns out that many counterfeiters don't have chips, so the vehicle data doesn't appear," he said in a virtual press conference, Thursday, February 24.

According to Budi, many of the perpetrators of counterfeiting came from former Transportation officials. As a former officer, the perpetrator knew the technical procedures.

"There have been quite a few counterfeiters, especially maybe people who used to be Transportation people are no longer on duty, but know the technical procedures. Like in North Jakarta, they were insiders but have retired," he explained.

Not only in the Jabodetabek area, cases of counterfeiting KIR cards also spread in various regions. Such as in Malang, Padang, Balikpapan and South Kalimantan. However, according to Budi, from time to time it is easier for officers in the field to find the counterfeit KIR.

"You can only read a test card like this with a cellphone. There used to be a reader in particular," he said.

For your information, the Ministry of Transportation has replaced KIR with a new form twice. First, starting in 2019 in the form of cards, then the next material is in the form of sheets and stickers.

"Since 2022 we have changed from 3 to 2, namely the KIR test card is still there and the RFID is installed on the windshield. If it has been tested, these two materials are given to the driver or vehicle owner. This can be the e-Wallet card," he explained.

According to Budi, the KIR test card contains a vehicle data chip and so on, including dimensions.

"All KIR tests in regencies/cities have used this, which has not been phased in yet," he said.
