JAKARTA - Soekarno-Hatta Airport (Soetta) entered the top 10 busiest airports in the world in January 2022 according to the UK-based global flight information provider, Official Airline Guide (OAG).

According to OAG data, in terms of flight seat capacity in January 2022, it was recorded that Soetta Airport was ranked 10th with a capacity of 2.82 million flight seats (domestic and international).

OAG said that in January 2022, Soekarno-Hatta Airport's ranking was better than the period before the pandemic, namely in January 2019 at 15th.

"Jakarta is in 10th position, better than the period before the pandemic, which was 15th in 2019," wrote OAG on its official website quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 9.

OAG said the large domestic market made Soetta Airport in the list of the world's 10 busiest airports in January 2022.

The Jakarta-Denpasar and Jakarta-Makassar flight routes are also included in the list of the 10 busiest domestic routes in the world in January 2022 based on flight seat capacity.

Other airports with large domestic markets on this list are airports in Dallas and Denver (United States), as well as airports in Delhi (India).

Meanwhile, Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta, USA, is ranked 1st with a total capacity of 4.39 million flight seats.

Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of the Main Branch Office of Soekarno-Hatta Airport (KCU BSH) Agus Haryadi said that currently, airplane passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport are dominated by domestic route passengers, which account for 95 percent.

"International flights are still limited. This indicates that Soekarno-Hatta Airport as an anchor airport for domestic flights can maintain air connectivity in Indonesia in the midst of a pandemic," he said.

Agus said AP II and stakeholders can coordinate well so that Soekarno-Hatta Airport continues to operate 24 hours a day by implementing health protocols in the midst of a pandemic.

Airport Council International (ACI) has awarded the Airport Health Accreditation certificate for two consecutive years, with the first certificate being awarded in November 2020 and the second certificate being awarded in November 2021.
