KAI Jogjakarta Manager Says COVID-19 Omicron Variant Doesn't Affect Train Travel Demand

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) stated that the presence of the new variant of COVID-19 Omicron has so far not affected the demand for train travel by the public.

"Occupancy has started to increase, although there are still restrictions, namely 80 percent, not 100 percent," said Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Jogjakarta Supriyanto in Solo, Central Java as quoted by Antara, Saturday, February 5.

In fact, he said, for the period of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the number of fleets increased by 10 percent compared to normal days. He said that on weekdays the number of train trips that routinely cross Daop 6 is around 40-50 trips.

"Meanwhile, on weekends there are additional 4-5 train trips. For facultative ones, on average, they go to Jakarta," he said.

He said that Solobalapan Station itself serves 86 train trips, consisting of 10 long-distance train trips departing from Solobalapan Station, 50 passing trains, 6 local BIAS trains pp, and 20 KRL pp with an average daily passenger of around 4,000 people.

Especially for January 2022, he said, there were 101,129 passengers consisting of 28,096 long-distance train passengers, 792 BIAS train passengers, and 72,241 KRL passengers.

"While the passengers disembarked in January 2022, there were 99,274 passengers consisting of 30,680 long-distance train passengers, 1,095 BIAS local trains, and 67,499 KRL passengers," he said.

Meanwhile, considering the spread of COVID-19 which is still happening today, he said, there has been no change in terms of train travel, namely passengers aged 17 years and over are required to show the first minimum vaccine result and show a negative result of a rapid test that is valid for 1 x 24 hours or PCR. which is valid 3x24 hours.

"In addition, passengers are also in good health, wearing masks. To purchase tickets at the station, they only serve three hours before departure, for orders you can use KAI access," he said.
