Fishermen Are Helped By The Management Of PLTU Jawa 9&10

JAKARTA - The extreme weather that has occurred in the last few weeks in the Sunda Strait has forced fishermen in Suralaya Village, Pulomerak District, Cilegon City, Banten to be forced to lean their boats.

In response to this condition, PT Indo Raya Tenaga (IRT) along with the construction contractors for the Java 9&10 PLTU, PT Hutama Karya (HK) and PT Doosan Heavy Industries Indonesia (DHII) provided basic food assistance to fishermen, Wednesday, December 29.

The fishermen feel helped by the sympathetic actions of the IRT and the management of the Java 9&10 PLTU that have been carried out many times. Fishermen also expressed their hope that they will always be in line with the management of the environmentally friendly power plant. Fishermen want Indo Raya Tenaga to also cooperate with them to foster and develop their potential.

"Harmony between industry and fishermen must be properly maintained, one way is that PT IRT must be able to become a foster father, so that later there will be guidance related to human resources, fishing gear, other facilities and infrastructure. That way, the welfare of fishermen, especially Suralaya and Cilegon City in general can be better," said Tatang Tarmizi, chairman of the All-Indonesian Fishermen's Association (HNSI) in Cilegon City, in a written statement, Thursday, December 30.

He and a number of fishermen on that occasion also expressed their gratitude to PT IRT and the two main contractors of PLTU Jawa 9&10 for providing stimulus to fishermen in the Suralaya area. According to him, in the middle of the west season, it is difficult for fishermen to find fish because the weather is not friendly. What is given, of course helps them and their families when they can't go to sea.

"Of course, this assistance is beneficial for fishermen when currently many fishermen do not go to sea due to extreme weather," said Tatang.

The food packages given to fishermen in Pangkalan Suralaya and Pangkalan Tanjung Pujut include rice and instant noodles. The food packages also include masks. Present on the occasion were the management of PT IRT, PT HK and PT DHII. Then the Management of the All Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) DPC Cilegon City and fishermen in the Suralaya waters.

General Manager of PT IRT Steve Adrianto said that the distribution of basic needs to the community is currently part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program together with PT HK and PT DHII. He hopes that this assistance will become a temporary stimulus for fishermen and their families, as long as their income is reduced due to not going to sea.

Steve himself ensured that in the future, apart from food assistance, his party has also prepared a number of empowerment programs for fishermen. "Synergy with Suralaya fishermen needs to be sustainable in the long term, considering that fishermen are a community that must be considered," said Steve.

According to him, the existing fishing bases, boat docks, kiosks for fishermen's families, parking facilities, and public lighting are actually a form of PT IRT's concern in providing infrastructure for fishermen and the community.

"With the existing facilities, fishermen are expected to be able to maintain, care for, and develop the potential that exists in Suralaya," explained Steve.
