Viral On Social Media, The Price Of Djarum Super Cigarettes Belonging To The Hartono Brothers Was IDR 460 Per Pack In 1990, How Much For Gudang Garam?

JAKARTA - On social media Facebook, an upload is going viral showing the price of cigarettes per slipper or per ten packs in 1990 in Indonesia. It is the official Facebook account of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia that uploaded the image.

The price listed is the price per slide. Cigarette brands displayed range from Marlboro, Kansas, Ardath, Dunhill, Djarum, Sampoerna to Gudang Garam.

"The following is a list of prices for several brands of cigarettes, both white and kretek cigarettes in Jakarta as of December 29, 1990. Seeing the "cheap" price of cigarettes in the 1990s, many netizens said that in the past 30 years the price of cigarettes has gone up by thousands of percent.

Take for example, the price of Marlboro cigarettes in 1990 was only Rp. 925 per pack. Meanwhile, the current price of Marloboro cigarettes has reached around Rp. 30,000 per pack.

Djarum Super contains 12 sticks in 1990 for only IDR 460 per pack, whereas now it is priced at around IDR 20,000 per pack. Sampoerna's products were priced at IDR 900 per pack in 1990, and now they are in the IDR 26,000 price range.

As for the Gudang Garam cigarettes, which are currently viral because they were smoked by Ariel Tatum, in 1990 the price was only Rp. 400 per pack. Meanwhile, currently, the cigarettes belonging to the conglomerate Susilo Wonowidjojo are in the range of Rp. 19,000 per pack.

"Wow, it's crazy, now the price has gone up to thousands of percent, the top is +62," commented a netizen named Chamada Alatas.

"I think it's the month of this year... heard the news that cigarettes will go up again starting January, is that right," said a citizen named Rian Kelana.

"Samsoe is now 18 thousand. Marlboro 32 thousand. The price is per pack at the stall. It's amazing the price difference is really drastic," said a citizen named Ibnu Arief's account.
