Deputy Chairperson Of Commission VII DPR Warns PLN To Review Electricity Tariff Increase

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR Eddy Soeparno asked PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN to carefully review the plan to increase electricity rates for non-subsidized groups. This is because the increase in electricity rates will be burdensome for consumers whose economy is still affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"After all, non-subsidized electricity customers are also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this case, medium-sized, household and commercial businesses. Therefore, PLN must carefully review the plan to increase electricity rates, which of course will be more burdensome for consumers," he said in a written statement received VOI, Friday, December 3rd.

Therefore, Eddy requested that PLN first discuss the plan to increase the electricity tariff with Commission VII DPR as a working partner.

"We at the DPR ask that PLN first discuss the electricity increase in Commission VII DPR so that socialization in the community can be carried out properly," he said.

Eddy admitted that he did not want the planned increase in electricity for the non-subsidized group to cause a polemic. Moreover, at this time the economy has not fully recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It doesn't cause polemics or unnecessary noise, given the condition of the people who have not fully recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

As is known, PLN plans to adjust electricity tariffs or tariff adjustments for 13 groups of non-subsidized PT PLN (Persero) electricity customers next year.

The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Rida Mulyana said the amount of the tariff adjustment will be implemented according to the initial rules in 2022 while taking into account the pandemic conditions.

The following 13 groups of non-subsidized electricity customers are quoted from PLN data regarding electricity tariff adjustments for October-December 2021:
