Pertamina Upstream Subholding Targets Two Projects To Support Government In Reaching Sustainable Development Target

JAKARTA - Pertamina's Upstream Subholding is targeting two main projects. The projects that will be targeted are energy efficiency and emission reduction, to plans for implementing renewable energy through the use of solar panels.

Pertamina's Upstream Subholding Corporate Secretary, Arya Dwi Paramita, said that the implementation of the program follows efforts to implement sustainable environmental management in upstream oil and gas business processes.

Furthermore, Arya said the move was in line with Pertamina's commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values.

"These programs also support the Indonesian government's efforts to realize the sustainable development goals (SDGs) targets," he said, in Jakarta, Friday, November 5.

Arya explained that energy efficiency in the Upstream Subholding is done through reducing fossil fuels, increasing engine reliability and efficiency and optimizing production systems. With various programs carried out at the zone level, the emission reduction target reached 33,296 tons of Co2 eq and recorded a potential cost efficiency of up to IDR 66.4 billion.

In addition, said Arya, emission reductions are carried out through a program of deactivating flares, reducing gas flares and utilizing gas. In its implementation, the Upstream Subholding has recorded an emission reduction target of up to 83,895 tons of Co2 eq.

Furthermore, Arya said there are still other programs in the planning and preparation stages of Upstream Subholding. He believes that additional programs can contribute to emission reductions.

"The Upstream Subholding has also planned the application of renewable energy through the use of solar panels which can later contribute to reducing emissions," he said.
