JAKARTA - A subsidiary of PT Sido Muncul's Herbal Medicine and Pharmaceutical Industry (Sido Muncul), PT Semarang Herbal Indoplant (SHI), made its first export of essential oil products to France. SHI will export 61 tons of essential oil canisters which will be delivered in stages until November 2021 with a total export value of IDR 36 billion.
The ceremony for the delivery of the first essential oil cylinder was held at the SHI factory in Semarang, last Friday, October 29. As a start, SHI sent 16 tons of canisters with a value of Rp 9.3 billion at the ceremony which was attended by the Sido Muncul board of directors.
For information, the essential oil sent is oil made from the tropical spice patchouli (patchouli). Patchouli essential oil is in demand in the world because it is a raw material that is commonly used in the perfume industry, cosmetics, to aromatherapy products.
Sido Muncul President Director David Hidayat said patchouli essential oil was also the first product exported by SHI. According to him, the export steps taken by SHI were due to the high demand for essential oils in the world.
In fact, he continued, not all countries have various types of spices like Indonesia. This is the consideration of the SHI.
"The essential oil business is very promising because the value of essential oil exports from Indonesia can reach trillions of rupiah," David said in a virtual press conference last weekend.
Through SHI, continued David, his party is optimistic that it can become one of the leading players in the essential oil business. Because, SHI has become a leading company with modern technology and has adequate production capacity.

Meanwhile, Marketing Director of Sido Muncul, Irwan Hidayat, said that the initial export activity carried out by SHI was one of the right steps to advance the Indonesian economy.
According to him, so far, Indonesia is known as a country rich in spices. However, most of the spices are exported in the form of raw materials.
In fact, said Irwan, if it is processed, such as being extracted into essential oils, the selling price will be higher. In this way, income from exports increases.
"We realize that the materials that we (Indonesia) have must be processed before being exported. Processing it is a link that provides greater value to Indonesia," said Irwan Hidayat.
