Biswaroop Chowdhury's Lunge In The Middle Of The COVID-19 Tsunami

JAKARTA - Biswaroop Roy Chowdhury appeared amidst India's frenzy in facing the COVID-19 tsunami. He opposes any medical approach to COVID-19 and offers an alternative, namely fighting COVID-19 only from food.

"In my opinion, most of the deaths are not due to the corona virus itself, but because of the treatment," Chowdhury said in a video published on his website.

Chowdhury is not just anyone. He is a charismatic and popular anti-vaccine campaigner in India. On social media, Chowdhury is even banned on a number of platforms.

His statement this time provoked more responses. They worry that Chowdhury's influence will worsen the condition of COVID-19 in India. Chowdhury said conventional medicine was a conspiracy designed to bring huge money to big businesses, including pharmaceuticals and medical.

"Drugs will not help in curing any disease ... I really believe that humans do not need vaccinations at all," Chowdhury, quoted by the BBC, Sunday, May 2.

Enough healthy diet

In the video, Chowdhury claims that COVID-19 can be fought only by a diet rich in vegetables and fruit. Not only COVID-19, the diet that he applies is also said to be able to treat diabetes and even AIDS.

Not only lifting a healthy diet. Chowdhury also told his followers that hospitals increase people's chances of dying. In fact, he said, COVID-19 patients who have difficulty breathing are better off sitting in front of a fan rather than receiving oxygen.

Chowdhury was severely criticized by practitioners and experts. Chowdhury's perspective is seen as absurd in medical science.

But nevertheless Chowdhury has used the pandemic to spread his message. And critics fear it could set off a more severe COVID-19 storm in India.
