'All President Men' Accusation For The KPK Supervisory Board

JAKARTA - Even though they have been inaugurated, the polemic about the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas), which is the first time an anti-graft body, continues to flow. Most recently, the KPK Dewas not even considered fully independent. This response was made by the Executive Director of Lingkar Madani Indonesia, Ray Rangkuti.

Ray's reason is clear, the names who are now KPK Dewas never socialized by President Joko Widodo or the internal selection team chaired by State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Pratikno.

Not only that, Ray even said that with the names of KPK members determined by Jokowi, a straight line of bureaucracy to the president, and commissioners who are not independent, it is proper that this institution is called under the power of the president.

"It can almost be said that the KPK is now occupied by All President Men," Ray told reporters, Saturday, December 21.

This political observer also assessed that even though for the first time this KPK Dewas elected with the prerogative of President Jokowi, he should have also heard input from the public. Moreover, a number of these names occupy positions that actually overlap with other positions.

"The names chosen are really good personalities. The problem is they now occupy a position with overlapping functions," he said.

The overlap that Ray meant was that the KPK Dewas chaired by Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean was also responsible for granting permission to carry out investigations, wiretaps, searches or confiscations. It is known, this authority is contained in Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning amendments to Article 37b of the Corruption Eradication Commission Law.

Ray also commented on this authority, he said, according to his name the KPK Dewas should only have carried out a supervisory function, not even granting permits. "Then who can ensure that the adults also work according to the existing rules," he said.

"Are they really giving or denying permission on the basis of objective or subjective considerations," he added, adding that this overlap in organizational structures could make the big names sitting as the KPK Supervisory Board unable to move optimally.

Ray's accusation was then answered by the government. The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD said lightly that government decisions often do not please all parties. He even said that whatever decisions are made, it is normal for the government to be blamed.

"In Indonesia, we always blame anything. In the past, when there was a thought that the DPR would not elect a KPK Dewas. If the DPR is political, flirt and so on. Now after being elected the president is criticized again. He said all the president were," Mahfud told journalists in Jakarta, Sunday, December 22.

That policy, said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK), is common when people protest or criticize them. However, even though the wave of protests and criticism continues, the government must carry out what is mandated by the law.

"Just return it to the law. If later it is determined that the DPR will vote again. If elected by the president there are still people who protest, like Ray Rangkuti or Haris Azhar, so what do you want to do? This country has to work, right? , "he said.

Not only Mahfud, Main Expert Staff of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Ali Mochtar Ngabalin also commented on Ray Rangkuti's statement. According to him, these people were not All President Men but demigods.

Ngabalin assessed that the appointment of Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, Albertina Ho, Artidjo Alkostar, Syamsudin Haris, and Harjono was Jokowi's proof of public doubts about the KPK Dewas.
