Pramono ensures that the Jakarta LRT Velodrome-Manggarai is ready to operate, just waiting for the signal to be completed

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung ensures that the Jakarta LRT phase 1B project with the Velodrome-Manggarai route is basically ready to be operated. However, the service has not been opened to the public because it is still waiting for the completion of the signaling system at a number of points.

Pramono said the current project readiness level had reached 97.99 percent or almost 98 percent. He targeted that the signaling work would be completed on August 20, 2026.

"The Jakarta LRT, which is 12.2 kilometers long, has an investment of Rp. 12.1 trillion, stops at 11 points and we have already checked them all, they are all ready to be operated," said Pramono in Manggarai, South Jakarta, Thursday, August 13.

"If you ask how ready it is overall, it is now at 97.99, so almost 98 percent. What is missing? It is only the signal at some points but will be completed on August 20," he continued.

According to Pramono, the Jakarta LRT will be the new backbone of public transportation because it connects the North, East, and South Jakarta areas. The line is also planned to be connected to Dukuh Atas so that it will be connected to Central Jakarta.

He admitted that he had discussed the continuation of the route with the DKI Provincial Government and Jakpro. "It is hoped that it will be completed in August 2028," said Pramono.

The DKI Provincial Government estimates that the number of passengers on the Jakarta LRT route Kelapa Gading-Manggarai reaches around 60 thousand people per day in the initial phase of operations. This figure is projected to increase to around 80 thousand passengers per day after the service runs normally.

Pramono said that the operation of the Jakarta LRT will follow the pattern of KRL services, namely from 05.00 to 24.00 WIB.

He also opened the opportunity for the development of the Jakarta LRT network to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) and Halim Station which is connected to the Whoosh fast train. According to him, intermodal connectivity is the key to increasing the use of public transportation in Jakarta.

"Regarding tariffs, it will be decided later, but I plan that after this is operational, we will think about it from Kelapa Gading to JIS, then from the Velodrome to the Whoosh rapid train at Halim," he explained.

Pramono assessed that the increase in transportation connectivity would encourage a shift from private vehicles to public transportation. He revealed that the use of public transportation in Jakarta had increased by about 15 percent based on last month's data.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government will also coordinate with the central government and the Ministry of Transportation so that airport train services can be accessed directly from Manggarai without having to change modes at BNI City.
